The Art in Setting Priorities

After opening our gallery Marsh Hill Mercantile in 2021, we had a wonderful response from our customers. They loved that they could shop local artists and craft artisans in the heart of Deep Creek Lake’s tourist area, and our artists were thankful to have a place where they could exhibit their wares where resort visitors were going to be shopping.

Beyond the main gallery, we expanded into an adjoining suite where customers could shop a variety of pottery, home goods and decor, rugs, wall art and much more. The new space also enabled us to offer a number of different classes in a studio space called The Studio at Marsh Hill. From our popular wood wick dough bowl candle classes, to painting lake scenes with bears, our class attendees always had a blast, especially with our seasonal charcuterie board sessions!

As we approached the end of our lease period, we were realizing that my mom was becoming more tentative and was really more comfortable having us home with her, so we made the decision to close Marsh Hill Mercantile and move a number of artists up to a dedicated room at A Mountain Fix, our award-winning gift shop. This will allow us to be sure one of us is home with mom during the week and on most weekends. She celebrated her 91st birthday this year and is going strong and we want to keep it that way!

Thanks to everyone who shopped the Gallery and all the local artists who were able to display their works in a beautiful venue convenient for tourists and locals alike!
